Celebration of Philanthropy 2015

FWTH_0024Wow, wow, wow is about all we can say! Our hearts are full and our drive to give back even more amped-up than before.

We were beyond excited when the Texas Health Resources Foundation approached us and asked if we would mind Leighton’s Gift being discussed at the Celebration of Philanthropy luncheon in Dallas, Texas. We of course said a resounding YES! and looked forward to the event. The foundation team was going to put together a video about Leighton’s Gift to show at the luncheon and we couldn’t wait. We knew it might be emotional, but everyone we worked with was so professional and we couldn’t wait to see the final product. We didn’t expect that our first viewing of the video was going to be at the Dallas luncheon, but the final product did not disappoint. If you haven’t seen the video yet, check-out our homepage where the video is embedded. Sometimes a simple video can say so much more than text, and we are eternally grateful for this gift from the Foundation.

As the luncheon date got closer, we were asked if we’d be available for the Celebration of Philanthropy luncheon in Fort Worth, Texas as well which was 2 weeks after the Dallas luncheon. We again, of course said YES! The Texas Health Resources system is large, and all of our work to date has been with Texas Health Plano. We were excited to share our story with a whole new group of people within the Texas Health Resources system.

IMG_7560If we didn’t have the opportunity to go to Fort Worth, we would have never met the McCoy family who had experienced a very similar situation. Many times, NICU parents “just get it.” They understand our fears, the NICU lingo, the celebrations and the disappointments. The McCoys delivered twins and unfortunately only were able to take one home like us. They too have turned their grief into something positive and we both agree, therapeutic as well. Their upcoming fundraiser, “The Butterfly Effect Clay Shoot” benefitting The Texas Health Fort Worth NICU Palliative Care Fund, is on October 3rd. We’ll be doing an upcoming blog post specifically on this important event and talk a little more about what NICU Palliative Care is. If you are available October 3rd to come and support this great cause, we know the McCoy’s would appreciate your attendance and support.
